"Happy Feet" called an animated version of "An Inconvenient Truth"

Why shouldn't we teach children about the environment? So, you've probably come across media propaganda like the video below from CNN and FOX. They are calling the new movie, Happy Feet, an animated version of An Inconvenient Truth, which I had an earlier post on.

"Bah," I say. Why shouldn't we teach children about the environment, about being stewards of the Earth, about climate change, and about the interconnectedness of nature? And putting it in an animated film? Have you ever heard of The Lorax (which, by the way, my children love).

When big media conglomerates jump to accuse or cause controversy over something that might open peoples' eyes to the world around them, it makes you question their motives and how accurate and complete the information (read: "garbage") they are feeding us is.

Or you should.

The truth is -- Global Warming is going to matter more to our children that it apparently matters to us right now. Greenland is melting faster and faster each year, threatening to collapse. If it does, the implications are hard to imagine. For one, sea level will rise over 20 ft around the world, flooding the homes of over 150 million people, from New York to Tampa, Beijing to Bangladesh. For another, the global ocean and wind patterns will change dramatically, causing some very sudden and dramatic changes to the climate patterns around the world.

But we probably shouldn't tell the children this yet. We should wait until it happens and then shrug our shoulders and say "Oops. Sorry."

I, for one, can't wait to see this film and am excitied to take my 6-year old daughter, who is well-informed about the environment and (insert drum-roll here) actually cares!

Happy feet is about a group of penguins, who find their soul mate through singing. Sadly, however, one of the penguins does not know how to sing and tries finding his soul mate in a different way.You are going to love this animated film.
